Cape Verde Entry Requirements: Visa & EASE Guide (2026)

To ensure a smooth arrival on Sal Island, it is essential to understand the entry requirements. Cape Verde has simplified its process, but there are mandatory steps every traveler must take before boarding.

1. Passport Requirements

  • Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of departure from Cape Verde.
  • Blank Pages: Ensure you have at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps.

2. Mandatory EASE Pre-Registration

All foreign travelers must complete an online pre-registration before traveling.

  • Official Website: This must be done exclusively at www.ease.gov.cv.
  • Deadline: It should be completed at least 5 days before your flight.
  • Information Needed: Passport details, arrival/departure dates, flight number, and accommodation address.
  • Tip: If you booked through a travel agency, check if they have already handled this for you.

3. Airport Security Tax (TSA)

The TSA is a mandatory fee for international passengers entering Cape Verde.

  • Cost: 3,400 CVE (approximately €31 / $34) per person.
  • Payment: This is usually paid online during the EASE pre-registration process.
  • TSA Exemptions:
  • Children under 2 years old.
  • Holders of Cape Verdean passports and their direct family (spouses/children).
  • Foreigners with official residency in Cape Verde.
  • Transit passengers who do not leave the airport.

4. Visa Policy & Exemptions

Cape Verde offers visa-free entry to citizens of many countries for short stays (usually up to 30 or 90 days):

  • Visa-Exempt Countries: This includes citizens of the European Union, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Brazil, and ECOWAS countries.
  • Important: Even if you are exempt from a visa, the EASE pre-registration and TSA payment are still mandatory.
  • Pre-Arrival Visa: Citizens from countries not on the exemption list must obtain a visa from a Cape Verdean Embassy or Consulate before traveling. Note that “Visa on Arrival” services have been restricted for several nationalities as of 2026.

Departure Checklist:

  1. Passport (valid for at least 6 months).
  2. EASE Pre-registration completed at ease.gov.cv.
  3. Proof of TSA payment (digital or printed).
  4. Hotel or accommodation confirmation.
